All 12 callings of Tales & Tails

Your calling answers the question: What am I here to do? Each calling has a unique way of breaking Darkness Points, a signature power, and a passive feature that defines your role in the party.

Knight

The Brave Protector
TankMight +2, Brave +1
Shields, swords, hammers, medium armor

Abilities

Bonk Strike: Break 1 DP with a harmless bonk
Guard Stance: Give an ally +2 Defense until next turn
Courage Call: All allies gain +1 to next Spirit Save

Signature (Lv 3)

Heartshield: Absorb the next DP damage for an ally

Once/Rest

Heroic Charge: Rush forward and break 2 DP (3 with momentum)

Passive

Noble Presence: +1 Defense vs corrupted foes
Best species: Lion, Penguin

Glowcaster

The Magical Spark Mage
Damage / SupportClever +2, Keen +1
Wands, staves, light armor, arcane tools

Abilities

Spark Shot: Break 1 DP with shimmering magic
Light Bubble: Give an ally +1 to next roll
Read the Glow: Detect magic or corruption within 10 ft

Signature (Lv 3)

Prism Burst: Break 1 DP from all foes within 10 ft

Once/Rest

Nova Flicker: Supercharge a spell: break 3 DP on one target

Passive

Ambient Glow: Allies near you have +1 Spirit Saves
Best species: Baby Dragon, Owl

Sneaklet

The Sneaky Trickster
Damage / UtilitySwift +2, Clever +1
Daggers, slings, light armor, trick tools

Abilities

Trick Tail Feint: Give foe disadvantage on next action
Quick Jab: Break 1 DP (2 if foe is distracted)
Soft Steps: Advantage on stealth checks

Signature (Lv 3)

Shadow Flip: Teleport 5 ft and break 1 DP

Once/Rest

Prankster Burst: Break 1 DP from one foe + disadvantage to another in 10 ft

Passive

Lucky Footwork: Reroll one failed Swift save per turn

Songweaver

The Melody Mage

Instruments, light armor, emotion magic

Abilities

Harmony Note: Break 1 DP with a soothing chord
Heart Tune: Restore 1 HP to an ally
Inspire: Ally gains +2 on next roll

Signature (Lv 3)

Chorus of Courage: All allies: +1 next roll, heal 1 HP, next DP break +1

Crescendo Burst: Remove 2 DP from one foe or 1 DP from all nearby

Passive

Lingering Melody: Allies near you have +1 Spirit Saves
Best species: Dolphin, Unicorn

Leafling

The Forest Friend

Nature tools, staves, light armor

Abilities

Vine Snare: Hold a corrupted foe in place
Bloom Mend: Heal 2 HP or remove 1 DP
Whisper to Leaves: Ask nature for simple guidance

Signature (Lv 3)

Verdant Shield: Leafy shield wraps an ally, absorbs 2 DP

Once/Rest

Bloom Burst: Remove 2 DP from a foe or heal 3 HP

Passive

Nature's Friend: Animals trust you; corrupted beasts target you less

Inventor

The Gadget Genius

Gadgets, light armor, tinker tools

Abilities

Gadget Shot: Launch a contraption to break 1 DP
Auto-Helper: Deploy tiny robot: ally gets +1 to rolls
Tinker Fix: Repair an item or grant +1 Defense

Signature (Lv 3)

Sprocket Bot: Summon robot companion: breaks 1 DP/turn for 3 turns

Once/Rest

Whizbang Device: Break 2 DP and stun a foe with a harmless poof

Passive

Keen Engineer: Detect mechanical traps, devices, and corruption tech
Best species: Gecko, Otter

Keeper

The Memory Mage
Support / UtilityKeen +2, Clever +1
Tomes, scrolls, light armor, scholar tools

Abilities

Recall the Name: Speak a creature's true story fragment: break 1 DP
Story Shield: Surround an ally in narrative shield (+2 Defense)
Identify Darkness: Learn how many DP a foe has left

Signature (Lv 3)

Rewrite the Ending: Change one failed roll for an ally into a success

Once/Rest

Page Burst: Summoned pages swirl around a foe: remove 2 DP

Passive

Lorekeeper's Insight: Gain hints, clues, or secrets more easily
Best species: Owl, Red Panda

Luminarch

The Radiant Protector

Radiant tools, light armor, charms

Abilities

Shine Beam: Break 1 DP with pure light
Halo Shield: Grant an ally +2 Defense
Hope's Touch: Heal 1 HP with a glowing hand

Signature (Lv 3)

Sunburst Veil: Allies in 10 ft: +2 Defense; corrupted foes: disadvantage on next attack

Once/Rest

Radiant Pulse: Remove 2 DP from one foe or 1 DP from all nearby

Passive

Light of Heart: Corrupted creatures deal –1 DP to you
Best species: Unicorn, Phoenix

Stonecaller

The Builder & Terrain Master
Tank / UtilityBrave +2, Might +1
Hammers, stones, heavy tools, crafting kits

Abilities

Pebble Pop: Break 1 DP with a small stone pop
Quick Block: Raise a tiny stone wall for cover
Earth Sense: Detect vibrations or hidden threats

Signature (Lv 3)

Stone Shield: Protective dome absorbs 2 DP of damage

Once/Rest

Earth Burst: A harmless quake breaks 2 DP from a foe

Passive

Solid Footing: Cannot be pushed or knocked prone
Best species: Turtle, Tiger

Wildscout

The Explorer & Archer
Damage / UtilitySwift +2, Keen +1
Bows, slingshots, light armor, survival tools

Abilities

True Shot: Break 1 DP at range
Trail Sense: Advantage on tracking or navigation
Quick Step: Move +5 ft before or after an attack

Signature (Lv 3)

Forest Focus: Next ranged hit breaks 2 DP instead of 1

Once/Rest

Wind Arrow: Fire a magic arrow: remove 1 DP from two different foes

Passive

Silent Range: Ranged attacks do not reveal your hiding position
Best species: Rabbit, Owl

Barbarian

The Wild Charger
Damage / TankMight +2, Swift +1
Big weapons (axes, mauls), light/medium armor, climbing gear

Abilities

Charge In: Move 10 ft toward foe + break 1 DP
Reckless Swing: Break 2 DP but get –1 Defense
Battle Yell: Allies in 10 ft get +1 to next attack or Spirit Save

Signature (Lv 3)

Stormrush: Dash 15 ft in a line, break 2 DP on a foe you pass

Once/Rest

Wild Heart: 3 rounds: first hit breaks +1 DP, first DP taken reduced by 1

Passive

Momentum Fighter: Move 10+ ft before attacking: +1 Defense until next turn
Best species: Tiger, Dog

Guardian

The Shieldbearer
Tank / SupportBrave +2, Keen +1
Shields (all), hammers, maces, heavy armor

Abilities

Shield Bash: Break 1 DP with your shield
Shield Wall: You + allies in 5 ft gain +1 Defense
Take the Hit: Take DP damage meant for an adjacent ally

Signature (Lv 3)

Bulwark Bubble: Shield dome for you + 2 allies: absorbs 3 total DP

Once/Rest

Iron Stand: 3 rounds: +2 Defense, immovable, intercept ally DP –1

Passive

Shieldmate Aura: Adjacent allies have +1 Defense
