Whimsy Woods Bestiary

"The trees here resonate with music, and the creatures who live among them carry that same gentle magic β€” until they don't."

This file contains all 10 creatures native to Whimsy Woods and the surrounding Puddlebrook area. Expect playful, curious, and mischievous encounters β€” but watch out for thorny surprises.

Honey Hopper

Beast β€” Honey Hollow

"A cheerful frog that leaps through honey puddles leaving sticky footprints."

HP: 12 | Dodge: 11 | Mettle: 0 | Corrupted DP: 2 | Attack Bonus: +2

Attack

Sticky Kick (1d6 bludgeoning) β€” A springy kick that coats the target in honey, leaving them slightly slower than before.

Special Ability

Honey Splash β€” The Honey Hopper slaps a puddle of honey underfoot, slowing all enemies within 5 ft. (DC 11 AGI save or speed halved until end of next turn, once per battle)

Weakness

Fire β€” Heat melts the honey armor clean off, and the Honey Hopper hates it very much.

Loot

Sweet Syrup Bottle

Corrupted Form

When touched by The Unwritten: Black marks appear on the Honey Hopper's belly, spreading like ink dropped in water. Dark, tar-like scales erupt along its legs. The sweet honey it once splashed turns thick and black, burning like glue. Behavior: The cheerful leaper becomes frantic and aggressive, bouncing off walls and targets alike, smearing dark honey wherever it lands. Attack: Sticky Kick now inflicts Stuck condition (DC 12 STR save) in addition to normal damage. Defeating the corruption frees them.

Mushmellow

Plant β€” Whimsy Woods

"A soft mushroom creature that giggles when stepped on."

HP: 10 | Dodge: 10 | Mettle: 0 | Corrupted DP: 2 | Attack Bonus: +2

Attack

Spore Puff (1d6 poison) β€” Releases a sneeze-like burst of glowing spores directly at a target.

Special Ability

Sleep Spores β€” The Mushmellow puffs a cloud of lavender sleep spores at one target. (DC 11 CON save or gain the Sleepy condition for 1 round, once per battle)

Weakness

Fire β€” Its spongy body is surprisingly flammable.

Loot

Healing Cookie

Corrupted Form

When touched by The Unwritten: Black veins spread across the Mushmellow's cap like cracks in old wood. Dark grey scales grow from its stem. Its gentle giggle fades into a low, hollow moan. Behavior: The normally docile Mushmellow begins stumbling toward anything that moves, releasing spores compulsively and constantly. Attack: Sleep Spores become Dark Spores β€” targets who fail the save gain the Confused condition instead of Sleepy, and may attack an ally on their next turn. Defeating the corruption frees them.

Twigpaw

Beast β€” Whimsy Woods

"A shy woodland cat with fur that looks like bark and moss."

HP: 14 | Dodge: 13 | Mettle: 1 | Corrupted DP: 3 | Attack Bonus: +2

Attack

Scratch (1d8 slashing) β€” Quick, precise claws that leave four neat parallel marks.

Special Ability

Root Camouflage β€” Twigpaw freezes perfectly still among roots and undergrowth, becoming nearly invisible. (Enemies must succeed DC 13 Perception to target Twigpaw while it's in foliage; passive ability)

Weakness

Fire β€” The bark-like fur catches easily.

Loot

Leaf Cloak

Corrupted Form

When touched by The Unwritten: The mossy patches on Twigpaw's fur darken and shrivel. Black scales grow along its spine, giving it a jagged silhouette. Its amber eyes glow a cold, pale grey. Behavior: The shy cat's stillness becomes predatory. Instead of hiding to avoid conflict, it now stalks targets from the shadows, waiting for the worst moment to strike. Attack: Scratch gains a fear effect β€” targets hit must succeed on a DC 12 WIS save or lose their Quick Action on their next turn from the shock. Defeating the corruption frees them.

Buzzling Bee

Insect β€” Honey Hollow

"Overly friendly bees that buzz with pure excitement and sugar."

HP: 8 | Dodge: 12 | Mettle: 0 | Corrupted DP: 2 | Attack Bonus: +2

Attack

Sting (1d6 piercing) β€” An enthusiastic sting delivered with maximum effort and minimal aim.

Special Ability

Swarm Summons β€” Calls in two Swarm Allies (1 HP each, Dodge 10, Mettle 0, deal 1 damage on hit) to assist in battle. (Once per encounter)

Weakness

Cold β€” Cold air makes Buzzling Bees sluggish and clumsy.

Loot

Honey Boots

Corrupted Form

When touched by The Unwritten: The Buzzling Bee's bright golden stripes fade to smoky black. Dark scales dot its abdomen like armor plates, and its wings take on an oily sheen. Behavior: The bee's boundless friendliness curdles into frenzied aggression. It buzzes at deafening volume and attacks without hesitation. Attack: Summoned Swarm Allies also become corrupted, gaining 2 HP and dealing 1d4 damage each. Defeating the corruption frees them.

Berry Bandit

Beast β€” Puddlebrook

"A raccoon thief who loves shiny berries more than gold."

HP: 15 | Dodge: 13 | Mettle: 0 | Corrupted DP: 3 | Attack Bonus: +3

Attack

Berry Toss (1d6 bludgeoning) β€” Hurls a hard berry at surprising velocity with excellent aim.

Special Ability

Snatch β€” The Berry Bandit darts in and steals one item from a player's pack. (Target must succeed on DC 13 AGI save to keep hold of a randomly selected carried item; once per battle)

Weakness

Lightning β€” Raccoons and static electricity are a bad combination.

Loot

Energy Berry

Corrupted Form

When touched by The Unwritten: Black marks streak down the Berry Bandit's striped tail. Small dark scales cluster around its mask-like face markings. Its clever eyes turn a hollow grey. Behavior: The mischievous thief becomes a chaotic hoarder, grabbing anything it can reach β€” items, weapons, even pieces of armor β€” and hoarding them in a frenzied pile. Attack: Snatch now also deals 1d4 psychic damage as the bandit wrenches the item away, and Berry Toss targets are now poisoned berries (DC 12 CON or Stuck 1 turn). Defeating the corruption frees them.

Gigglegnome

Fey β€” Whimsy Woods

"Invisible pranksters who live under mushrooms and love to giggle."

HP: 10 | Dodge: 11 | Mettle: 0 | Corrupted DP: 2 | Attack Bonus: +2

Attack

Trick Cane (1d4 bludgeoning) β€” A tiny cane that appears from nowhere and raps ankles or noses with comedic precision.

Special Ability

Confounding Laughter β€” The Gigglegnome erupts in giggling so infectious it scrambles thinking. (DC 12 WIS save or gain the Confused condition for 1 round; once per battle)

Weakness

Silence β€” A Silence effect suppresses a Gigglegnome's invisibility and all its powers.

Loot

Lucky Feather

Corrupted Form

When touched by The Unwritten: The Gigglegnome's warm giggle turns cold. Black marks crawl across its tiny invisible form β€” visible only as dark floating scratches in the air. Small dark scales materialize around its hands and feet, the only solid parts of it now visible. Behavior: Pranks become dangerous. Instead of trips and tickles, it sets painful magical traps. Its laughter, once sweet, now causes headaches and disorientation. Attack: Confounding Laughter now affects all creatures in a 10 ft radius (DC 13 WIS save), and the Confused condition lasts 2 rounds. Defeating the corruption frees them.

Bloom Sprite

Fey β€” Whimsy Woods

"Tiny plant fairies that bloom from flowers touched by moonlight."

HP: 9 | Dodge: 11 | Mettle: 0 | Corrupted DP: 2 | Attack Bonus: +2

Attack

Petal Burst (1d6 radiant) β€” A whirling burst of enchanted petals that sting like tiny needles of light.

Special Ability

Moonbloom Heal β€” The Bloom Sprite sprinkles healing pollen over nearby allies, restoring 1d4 HP to one ally. (Once per battle)

Weakness

Poison β€” Poison undoes the Sprite's floral magic instantly.

Loot

Petal Charm

Corrupted Form

When touched by The Unwritten: The Bloom Sprite's petals turn from soft pink and white to deep purple-black, edged with dark scales that scrape like thorns. Its glow β€” once warm and golden β€” shifts to a cold, sickly green. Behavior: The healing instinct inverts. The Bloom Sprite now drifts toward wounded creatures and withers them further, drawn to pain. Attack: Moonbloom Heal becomes Wither Touch β€” instead of healing an ally, it drains 1d4 HP from a target (no save). Defeating the corruption frees them.

Pebble Pup

Construct β€” Puddlebrook Village

"A playful dog carved from enchanted rock that loves fetch."

HP: 16 | Dodge: 15 | Mettle: 1 | Corrupted DP: 3 | Attack Bonus: +3

Attack

Bite (1d8 piercing) β€” Rocky jaws that crunch down with surprising enthusiasm.

Special Ability

Stone Shell β€” When threatened, Pebble Pup hardens completely into a smooth rock. (Reduces incoming damage by 2 for one hit; can use once per battle as a reaction)

Weakness

Thunder β€” Sonic vibrations crack stone and rattle the enchantment inside.

Loot

Moon Pebble

Corrupted Form

When touched by The Unwritten: Dark veins spread through the Pebble Pup's stone hide like cracks filled with shadow. Black scales erupt along its back, making it look like a jagged statue of something wrong. Its tail stops wagging and hangs heavy like a broken branch. Behavior: The playful fetch instinct becomes aggressive retrieval β€” it charges players and tries to knock them down, dragging at their legs with its jaws. Attack: Stone Shell triggers offensively β€” when hardened, Pebble Pup can barrel into a target for an additional 1d6 bludgeoning damage (DC 13 STR save or knocked prone). Defeating the corruption frees them.

Thornback Tortoise

Beast β€” Whimsy Woods

"A gentle giant who carries half the forest on its back."

HP: 20 | Dodge: 16 | Mettle: 1 | Corrupted DP: 4 | Attack Bonus: +3

Attack

Shell Slam (1d8 bludgeoning) β€” A slow but devastating swing of the armored shell.

Special Ability

Thorn Retaliation β€” When struck in melee, the Thornback's spikes catch the attacker. (Deals 1d4 piercing damage back to the attacker; passive, triggers on every melee hit)

Weakness

Ice β€” Cold makes the tortoise's limbs stiff and slow, negating its passive reflect.

Loot

Thorn Fragment

Corrupted Form

When touched by The Unwritten: Black marks spread slowly across the Thornback's ancient shell, filling old cracks like dark mortar. The thorns lengthen and darken, tipped with tiny venomous scales. The moss on its back dies and turns grey. Behavior: The gentle giant becomes an immovable, aggressive wall. It stops retreating entirely and pursues targets with grinding, relentless determination. Attack: Thorn Retaliation now deals 1d4 piercing + 1d4 poison damage, and the venom inflicts Stuck on a failed DC 12 CON save. Defeating the corruption frees them.

Bramble Boar

Beast β€” Whimsy Woods

"Its tusks sparkle with sap and moss as it thunders through trees."

HP: 18 | Dodge: 13 | Mettle: 1 | Corrupted DP: 4 | Attack Bonus: +3

Attack

Charge (1d10 bludgeoning) β€” Lowers its head and thunders forward in a straight line, smashing through anything in the way.

Special Ability

Bramble Break β€” The Bramble Boar can shatter obstacles, barricades, or terrain features. (Breaks through wooden barriers, walls of vines, or stone walls up to 1 ft thick; passive environmental ability)

Weakness

Lightning β€” Static in the air makes the sap on its tusks crackle dangerously, dazing it.

Loot

Vine Whip Scroll

Corrupted Form

When touched by The Unwritten: Black marks bleed through the Bramble Boar's bristle-fur like spilled ink. Dark scales cluster between its tusks and along its snout, making its charge a spear of shadow. The glittering sap turns black and oozes. Behavior: The Bramble Boar's charges, once aimed at obstacles, now target everything β€” allies, trees, buildings, and players alike. It cannot stop itself; corruption removes its impulse control entirely. Attack: Charge deals an extra 1d6 necrotic damage on hit, and targets hit are pushed back 10 ft and must make a DC 13 STR save or fall prone. Defeating the corruption frees them.
